Launch event for The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust
Mar 28, 2014
The Diocese of Carlisle's new Multi Academy Trust – The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust – will be officially launched on Wednesday 2 April, 2014.
Education officials and senior clergy will join Headteachers and governors at the special launch event at the Newton Rigg campus near Penrith.
It follows approval last June from the Department for Education for the diocese to become an academy sponsor.
Michael Mill, the diocese's Director of Education, Children and Young People, said: “This launch event marks an important milestone for The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust.
“Since receiving approval to become an academy sponsor, a huge amount of work has been ongoing to enable us to reach this point.
“Detailed policy documents, legal frameworks and a draft scheme of delegation are in place for those who join our Trust's family of schools.
“And there's been ongoing dialogue with our church schools across the county about the many advantages of becoming a member of our Trust.
“We are excited by the thought that our Trust will offer children of all faiths and none, in all schools, an excellent educational provision within a caring and supportive Christian ethos.”
In recent months there have been a series of meetings with schools and clergy from across the county to explain more about the visions and values of the Trust.
Benefits to schools of joining the Trust include the opportunities for sustainability, to shape the future together and develop curriculum innovation; it will be a place where everyone has something to offer. This is coupled with the advantages of working with other partner schools to help create improved economies of scale and quality services.
The Trust will be inviting schools to join and where appropriate act as a sponsor for schools that need additional support.
The ultimate aim is to ensure robust and prolonged school improvement within a Christian ethos and structure. The Trust will be open to all community schools to join that share our vision and values.
The launch event will take place at the Conference Centre at Newton Rigg on Wednesday 2 April, 2014, from 5pm to 7pm.
The Bishop of Penrith, the Rt Rev'd Robert Freeman will officially welcome those attending.
Michael Mill will lead a presentation on The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust and the invited audience will also hear from Headteachers of schools in existing Multi Academy Trusts.
There will also be the chance to hear more about how schools can become a member of the Trust and its newly-published prospectus will also be available.
Mr Mill added: “We have a rich history of providing educational excellence through our church schools. We have 105 Church of England schools and academies in the Diocese of Carlisle which cater for eleven thousand pupils. The Trust will build on this excellent foundation in education provision across Cumbria.”
